Use of gems

I enjoy the game but am extremely frustrated with the use of the gems to speed up buildings and things. I would like there to be some kind of confirmation that you want to actually use the gems instead of accidentally tapping at the wrong time. I wasted 22 gems because I tapped near a building and it sensed it was on the building. This has been on many different occasions and almost makes me want to quit be game because it takes so long to acquire more gems which you need to purchase items that are required for certain tasks.
